[Video] Imaginary Worlds

After busy Lunar New Year, Republic Day (India) and Australia Day celebrations here’s a chance to unwind and relax. The video above is from the Imaginary Worlds Festival. It features a collection of animated film shorts telling stories set in weird and wonderful universes. Some of the films are a little weird and some are downright crazy, but they are all wonderful. [Video] 3D sound from ordinary laptop speakers

This is very impressive. I watched this on my laptop and in the teleconferencing scene I was able to identify each of the speakers as easily as the test subject. Just think of the possibilities for virtual worlds or gaming. Most first-person shooter (FPS) gamers play with headphones because they need to know if someone is sneaking up on them from behind. There’s actually a whole range of surround-sound headphones aimed specifically at FPS gamers. This technology could revolutionise the entire industry.

Microsoft to use Playstation Home

In a strange twist it seems that Microsoft is amongst a range of companies that plan to test Playstation Home for virtual business meetings. Other companies involved in the test include Ernst & Young and Merrill Lynch. I wonder how this test will affect Microsoft’s own virtual world project.
