Air, a French electronica band, have created a soundtrack for the newly restored 1902 French film, Le Voyage dans la Lune (Trip to the Moon). This in itself is great, but it is also an awesome demonstration of how musical artists can gain some additional cred.

By scoring a movie in the public domain or a piece of captured game machinima you can show your skills and versatility. This is true not just for those that wish to choose score composing as a career, but for any artist.

By uploading the scored film to the various video sites you can tap into the benefits of social media to market yourself as a popular commodity. Having a great demo tape is fine, but having a great demo tape, 10,000 Facebook fans and a video with a hundred thousand views is even better.

Have you ever wanted to know what English sounds like to a non-English speaker? It might sound something like this short film. Brian Fairbairn has directed a wonderful snapshot with a truly unique twist. Beautifully acted by, co-writer and editor, Karl Eccleston and Fiona Pepper.

I know this is a few days old but I felt it was worth reposting. As a fan of TinTin I’m very much looking forward to this movie, however I’m terrified that they’ll soil the legacy. While there’s nothing in this trailer to indicate they have, I have to say that despite liking the trailer it does leave me with a very uncomfortable feeling that I’ve seen it all before: the action scenes are very reminiscent of the Indiana Jones series. Do you also get that from the trailer?

I found this absolutely fascinating.

I can’t say that I am a big fan of the Captain America comics. I did read a few as a kid but they were hard to find and so I never really got into the series. However the ones I preferred were all set during World War 2. The character always seemed far grittier and more heroic than the whiny, emo 70s version. I couldn’t wait for the flashback sequences to begin. So I admit I had no interest in this film – it wasn’t even on my radar – until I saw this trailer. This is good. I like this. I love how they’ve gone back to the origins of the character. I hope the release can live up to the expectations created by this trailer.

Captain America: The First Avenger is definitely on my radar now.

A friend of mine, Rai Fazio, spent 10 years writing his first feature film and now it’s just been released by Disney. It’s called Two Fists One Heart. The film is a gritty drama about the rise of a young boxer. Rai is a former Australian Amateur Boxing Champion so he knows his subject. He also co-stars in the film. As part of the promotion, they’re running a competition where you can download the some of rushes and cut your own scene. The prize is quite unique as well. So, give it a go. I’ll be embedding my attempts in future posts.

They say that a picture is worth a thousand words. Well, this movie can be summed up in two: simply awesome!

This is one part of the marketing display for the Warner Bros. film, Yes Man. After seeing it I immediately had a few questions for Warners:

• Is it really so hard to print up new posters and displays when marketing to foreign audiences?
• Is it really necessary to ignore local customs and just assume that the locals will understand what you mean, just because you’re a multi-national, multimedia corporation?
• Is it worth the risk that the locals might not understand your notation?
