Science Fiction:
Frozen. Desperate. Alone. One ship must risk a weyr of dragons to save the human race.
Here’s some fun to end the week. This is reputed to have been made by Terry Gilliam in 1968 for a special Christmas Day show, Do Not Adjust Your Stocking. Unfortunately I’ve been unable to find a source (that isn’t self-referential) but in any case the video is darkly funny. There’s also this quote allegedly made by Gilliam about how he conceived the idea:
I went down to the Tate [Gallery] and they’ve got a huge collection of Victorian Christmas cards so I went through the collection and photocopied things and started moving them around. So the style just developed out of that rather than any planning being involved. I never analysed the stuff, I just did it the quickest, easiest way. And I could use images I really loved.
Here are some interesting facts and figures from a range of 2011′s social media platforms. Some pretty interesting stats delivered in a fun way.
However, just remember that while those numbers look big and impressive you must always evaluate how you’re going to utilise social media. This isn’t wide spectrum broadcasting, social media is more about listening and becoming a trusted advisor to a focused core group than screaming loudly at the masses.
Yes, there are hundreds of millions using the major platforms but are they the right people for you? And do you know how to communicate with them without alienating them? That’s where the real skill with social media lies.
Just like you’d double and triple check your business correspondence for errors, you must also ensure that your videos aren’t full of problems. In the video above, the sound level is way too low and so it’s almost impossible to hear what the narrator is saying. It doesn’t matter how good your video: how informative, witty, or topical; if you make it difficult to view then you’re wasting your time.
