Deciding what colour to make your web theme can be a challenge. We’ve long been fans of black and gold as our base colours, but they say a change is as good as a holiday. So we’ve dropped the darker shades and moved to something light and refreshing. A theme aptly named after my current favourite drink. Tells us what you think, what you liked and how we can do better. They say that bad luck comes in threes and it did for us. Two of those involved both our server and the backup dying within 24 hours of one another. You know, the backup that I tested only recently and it worked perfectly?. This not only killed our site dead but it also forced us off the net for a week while we waited for new hardware to be delivered. In the meantime we’ve been working fiendishly on a new site – something we wanted to do anyway but never had the time. So this is it. It’s rough. It’s hastily cobbled together. It’s a start. More and better over the coming days, weeks and months. Stick around. The party is just beginning.

Due to the fluctuating US dollar, Skribe Productions will begin charging for all services in Euros effective Monday, 31st March, 2008. Prices will be set based roughly upon the exchange rate as it was at the beginning of 2008. ie. At a minimum of seventy (70) Euro cents to one United States dollar. In the event that the US dollar is higher than 70 Euro cents on the date of the switch that amount instead will become the exchange rate,

Contracts signed before March 31st for work to be completed in April and beyond will charged in US dollars.

Recently a few people have been wondering why I made the shift from doing real world video production and take the incredible risk to move into making machinima, mainly in Second Life. Well here’s something I wrote 3 years ago that is kinda indicative of what real world video production had become for me:

You know you’ve made the right decision to turn down a job directing a commercial when:

1. It’s exactly the same people that screwed up last year’s attrocity.
2. One of the producer’s ideas for Harmony Week is a scene involving a burning flag.
3. The 1st AD doesn’t know what a call sheet is.
4. The DoP doesn’t think they need a call sheet on a project that is shot over three days using seven locations and a cast and crew of ten.
5. None of the actors have done any acting before.
6. The script involves a sparking electrical cable.
7. The power company doesn’t want to be involved.
8. One of the actors pulls out six hours before principal photography is due to start due to a religious belief.
9. The grip has pulled out, because he hasn’t been paid by the producer for a past production, and hasn’t told anyone on the production team.
10. The commercial was designed by committee.

The choice was actually kinda easy.

We’ve been doing some screen testing for a new movie we’re developing. As you can see from the picture it’s a romantic comedy set deep in the South American Congo. It’s amazing how hard it is to find good full-sized anaconda’s in Second Life. But anyway, the film is tentatively scheduled for completion sometime in January – good thing I didn’t say which year.
